One of the reasons I love coaching is that it’s so much like a puzzle. All of the pieces are there– they’re just not in the right order yet. I’ve found that even someone who comes across as very scattered and disorganized very often has all of the answers they need– they just didn’t realize they said it. By having them unpack what’s worked for them in the past, even if they’re not clear, they give you all the clues you need to help them put their puzzle together. 90% of solutions they come to, they came to on their own– they just didn’t realize it because they were going too fast or out of order. But as a coach, you can help them play back their own tapes slowly and in order… and it puts the pieces together.
