How’s this for kicking off the new year?  A book on making change lasting and effective.

When you train people, most of the time you need to explain and describe. Some of that is necessary, and it results in intellectual knowledge. But if you want the result of your training to be a changed behavior, you’ll need to do something in addition to that. When I train people in coaching, I ask them questions and allow them to process so they can experience coaching. It opens them up for change. That experience—finding the feeling—is what changes the way they approach the practice of coaching.

Switch by Chip and Dan Heath is one of the best books I’ve read on change. For more on building in change in experiential ways, check out Switch.
