Many of us will have more opportunities to connect with other people this Christmas season than we did last year. Let’s make full use of that opportunity by being truly and fully present with others. We can’t take anything for granted… people, time, health, life. All we really have is the right here and the right now and the people—whether many or few—that God has placed in our lives.
Jesus in his incarnation was full present, fully immanent, fully human. Consider the words of a well-loved Christmas carol:
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate deity
Pleased as man with men to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Emmanuel: God with us. So leave your device off, pretend you’re snowed in, put out the do not disturb sign… do whatever you need to do to ensure that you are fully present wherever you are this Christmas.
