Which is harder for you to give—your time or your money? In a lot of cases, time is the more precious resource. I’ve often found it easier to give money than time: “Why do I have to spend four hours washing cars at this youth group fundraiser? Can’t I just write a check instead?”

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matt 6:21). As we think of the stewardship of our lives, it’s not just about money. Part of that is the time we have also.

When we give of our time, we give of ourselves. There’s a story about the farm animals that wanted to give a ham and eggs breakfast. The chicken was happy to provide the eggs. But the pig balked: “You’re just making a contribution. I have to sacrifice.”
