A new coach recently asked me, “What if you’re just not that organized?”
She expanded on her dilemma: “I can ask good questions and be intuitive in the moment. I just don’t know how to keep the whole coaching relationship on track in the bigger picture. I’m not sure what needs to be done when and I’m sure I’m missing steps here and there. I’d like to be more organized, but that’s just not me. I’ve never been organized at anything in my life!”
My two basic responses are these:
- One, you’re not alone. This is a very common dilemma for many talented coaches.
- Two, if you don’t have an internal sense of organization, get an external one.
You can use an online coaching tool to prompt you, remind you, and keep you on track. I’ve just released MyCoachLog for this very purpose. Even very organized coaches can make excellent use of a tool like this. Who has never forgotten a detail that they wanted to follow up on or blanked on a name? Who has not wanted to waste time as they and their clients try to remember where they left off? Check out MyCoachLog and see how it can help you.
