To me, organic means “alive,” a recognition of the reality that the church is a living organism, not an institution. It’s a much more 1st-century approach to church. An organic church is alive and growing– it doesn’t necessarily need a building or programs. It is focused on discipleship and mission.

One important caveat though– organic is not a synonym for “disorganized.” Living organisms are inherently organized to support life. In fact, organic churches that are organized along relational lines require MORE organization rather than less. You need to organize along discipleship/coaching relationships. Not programs.
