The Goal Setting Effectiveness Profile: Setting goals to achieve personal growth e.g. physical, spiritual, educational, is often helpful at different phases of life. However, even though goal setting is talked about quite a bit, many people either don’t practice it, or their goal setting practices are inadequate to produce real, measurable results.
Goal setting turns a broad intention into a tangible step or task that is likely to achieve the intent in some specific way. Research has shown that there are seven sub-categories that contribute to good goal setting skills. These are:
- Vision clarity
- Direction and target setting
- Planning and organizing
- Measurement and milestones
- Communication and engagement
- Motivation and commitment
- Results focus
Although primarily intended as a self-assessment instrument, the questions have been worded so this tool can also be used in a 180 or 360-degree feedback process where several respondents complete a profile on the same person.
