Goal setting turns a broad intention into a tangible step or task that is likely to achieve the intent in some specific way. Regardless of whether the goal is simple or more complex, the process for effective goal setting is the same. To have any chance of meeting a particular outcome, goals need to be developed that translate this intent into tasks that, individually or in combination, will make progress towards this overall objective.
This topic is presented in four sequential stages consisting of:
- Prepare or plan your overall direction clearly
- Organize or think about how you will resource your plan or how to reach your goal(s)
- Act or set real and stretching targets that you can readily pursue
- Monitor or constantly review progress and adjust as necessary
This guide and storyboard provide a way to move through these goal setting competencies in a sensible and cohesive way.
