Over 40 years ago, as a young church planter, God met me in my hour of need. In the midst of struggling to plant a church in the Los Angeles area with little to no resources, I felt a call from the Lord to make note of the failures and victories so I could develop processes to help equip other church planters. It has been my life’s work to obey that call.
Perhaps the most noted result of that obedience was partnering with Steve Ogne to write The Church Planter’s Toolkit, which was published in 1991. After a 28-year run, the Toolkit was retired just this year!
But the Lord did not allow me to call the job done after the Toolkit was published. Since then, I’ve spent countless hours coaching and consulting church planters over the years. Nothing excites me more than coming alongside people answering the call from God to multiply disciples in their own unique way. That vantage point has given me a wide window into how church planting has changed—and how it has remained the same—over the years.
