One of the hindrances we have in church life is that we focus on fellowship as a priority.  The result is an inward focus.  We become myopic and don’t go on mission.  We feel we need to get better and have a closer fellowship before we can go on mission.

Yet if we turn it around and start by going on mission, fellowship is a natural by-product.  It just happens as we’re going on mission together.  It’s not a matter of either/or—fellowship or mission.  We want both/and: fellowship AND mission.  The question is what’s the best way to go about getting both/and.   If we start with mission, the fellowship comes along naturally and the bonds are stronger.  Alternatively, if we start with fellowship, most of the time we never make it to the mission.
