Cultivating missional movements: get going

Note: this is the second entry in a series on the Cultivating Missional Movements implementation guide by myself and Dave DeVries.

The second of the four stages is called “get going.” After you’ve prepared with “get ready,” the next thing to do is to “get going.” What does that stage include?

  • Develop disciplemaking pathways: You’ll need a clear way to make and grow disciples. You’ll need to think through specifically what you’re trying to accomplish and how you’re going to get there. And you’ll need to consider the essential starting point for discipleship: those who are not yet disciples.
  • Mobilize apostolic leaders: These are the leaders who are essential to the future of your movement– those who have a big vision or working at the regional level, empowering missional planters, and building teams and networks. You need to start developing apostolic leaders now. But where do you find them? And how do you develop them?
  • Coach missional leaders: Your missional leaders also need support and development as they engage in their ministries. How can you best come alongside them and help them sharpen their skills?

This implementation guide helps you journey alongside others in your cohort group as you work through these complex– yet essential– issues. Check out the Cultivating Missional Movements implementation guide, available at the Missional Toolkit website. The best way to work through it is to join us at our upcoming Cultivating Missional Movements Workshop in Bellevue WA on Nov 20-21, 2013.
