I ran a poll recently in a webinar asking people what issues were blocking them in their discipleship efforts. I asked people to check as many as applied, so the percentages below don’t total 100%, but represent the percentage of responders who struggle with each of these areas.
Here’s the summary of results:
Fizzles out |
55% |
Doesn’t result in leaders |
55% |
Never gets off the ground |
45% |
Focuses on head knowledge |
45% |
Lacks a clear destination |
36% |
Lacks a relational basis |
18% |
Leaves people discouraged |
18% |
How do these numbers compare with your own ministry experience? Finding the problem brings us one step closer to finding a solution. What possible solutions come to mind as you look at this listing?
Fizzling has always been my opportunity with discipleship relationships. The other, perhaps related opp has been too much focus on therapy conversation and not enough focus on reading Scripture and obeying God’s leading.
