Street improvements in Mexico, I am told, happen like clockwork once every five years—the year before elections. Every five years they’ll have some improvements done, but not the rest of the time. Any additional road work will wait until just before the election when the pressure to produce results is on.
It made me wonder: How often do we in ministry seek to cram instead of consistently, faithfully fulfilling our responsibilities? How would we assess our commitment and follow through? How often do we focus only when we know there’s going to be accountability, as opposed to being faithfully consistent even if nobody is watching?
