We work, yes, but we also need regular times for rest, reflection, and recreation. God has built this pattern into our seasons (holidays), our weeks (Sabbath) and our days (time with God). We also need to plan for and set aside regular times for periodic spiritual reflection and renewal—times for listening to God and planning accordingly.

This need is particular obvious when working and serving in intense situations. The need for rest is intensified. Yet when we are faced with constant demands, it’s the hardest to schedule in the rhythms our bodies, souls, and minds need. But without it, we will quickly burn out and become hollow in our service to others.
