Here’s my challenge to you today: Go ask a random person on the street, “If Jesus were here today, what would he be doing?” If you’re brave, you can come back and post the responses you get here on this blog.
Here’s my prediction: not one person will say that Jesus would be at church. I’m thinking more likely responses are hospices, nursing homes, prisons, HIV clinics, recovery homes, and so on.
The point of this little exercise is to see an outsider’s perspective on what Jesus would do. Whatever they say… that is what we should be doing. They know it and we know it.
A great example and reminder that if we are to be the feet, hands and voice of Jesus then we need to be where Jesus is. While I am sure that Jesus does join with us when we gather in our church buildings, this little piece pokes us to remember that Jesus spends a lot more time where people are – especially where people are hurting or on the margins. Thanks Bob!
