The church I’m helping plant, ViaCordis, recently celebrated its 3rd birthday. We had a campfire get-together to share and celebrate, and the Lord prompted one of our team members to look back at our prayer journals from when we first started ViaCordis. What we saw there was astonishing.
Thanks to the giftedness of one our core team members, we’d kept a meticulous record of our early prayers. When we looked back at those notes on what we were praying for in the next 3 to 5 year window, a number of common themes emerged: diversity, outward, people who don’t know Jesus, ministering to the least of these, leadership development in the harvest, and structures that allow for growth and change. The Lord gave us a vision to be like faucet that keeps sending people out.
Three years later we have seen a number of leaders raised and sent out that is astonishing for a group our size. We have seen a remarkable increase in the number of places where we are serving and the number of people mobilized to serve. We have seen people reached through our ministries who have then gone on to serve alongside us and reach others. We are now sensing a call to another season of prayer and a more extensive listening to the Spirit to prepare for the next phase of whatever God has for us.
My encouragement to you is to document what you hear God saying to you. That will guide you as you move forward. Then take time later to reflect on what God has done, because we get so wrapped up in the day-to-day that we forget what he’s accomplishing… and he’s accomplishing much more than we often think.
