I’ve written about this on my blog before, but it really stood out as I read the gospels with an eye toward seeing how Jesus lived. He really focused his ministry on the least of these. I’d challenge you to take some time this week to look through the following scripture passages to reflect on the people Jesus engaged with and served. What implications does this have for your ministry?
- Jesus engaged relationally across economic and cultural lines (Luke 7:39, John 4:1-42, Luke 18:35-43)
- Jesus recognized the spiritual receptivity of the poor and the outcast (Matt 5:3, Matt 19:16-30, Luke 7:44-47, Luke 18:9-14)
- Jesus drew attention to the plight of the poor (Luke 21:1-4 the widow with two coins, Luke 16:19-31 Lazarus at the rich man’s gate)
- Jesus healed the disabled (Matt 8:1-17, Matt 15:30)
