The three ways to focus missional activity are neighborhood, need and network.

  • Missional activity focused on a specific neighborhood is focused on the people and needs of a specific geography
  • Missional activity focused on a specific need such as homelessness, hunger, teen pregnancy, literacy, etc.

Lots of churches are trying to engage in missional activity. We’re all for that, and experimentation with different ministries is good. But many times missional activity can become random and scattered. We need to set priorities and evaluate each activity to see what’s actually effective. These are the three questions I use to prioritize missional activity:

I’ve been doing congregation-wide consultations based on just three questions. Here’s my challenge to you:  evaluate the effectiveness of the overall ministry of your church using just these three questions:

Saturating spirituality

spongeOne thing I’ve noticed in our weekly house church gatherings is that when people truly get connected spiritually and faith becomes real for them– you can see it in their faces. There is a transformation you can see. They have become different, and it’s obvious that the transforming work of Jesus is happening in their life.

I’ve found that we don’t need to press people to make a decision for Jesus. We share the reality of the gospel with them and then just continue to let it saturate their lives. Conversion is a transformative experienced– the gospel becomes so real for them it shows up so you can physically see it in people’s eyes and in their faces.

Options for implementing The Missional Journey

“Whether you’re planting a new church, re-orienting an established church, or guiding a movement, The Missional Journey is not just a book to read– it’s a book to work through and process with your team.” — Ed Stetzer, LifeWay Research

If you want to start working through The Missional Journey with your team, we can help you do that. I’ve started to get invitations to come in and cast vision for getting churches involved in incarnational missional ministry, as well as requests for help with implementation. How can we serve you? Through speaking, training, strategic planning, coaching?
