When disaster strikes, the first responders begin with triage. They assess the situation and determine where to start, what needs to be done, and what order to do it in.

When you come into a room full of wounded people, you have a choice. Do you start with the one who is hurt the worst? Or do you bandage an arm so that person can begin helping you treat others? Which does the most good? By starting with the minimally wounded, it’s not that you don’t care about the gravely wounded—it’s a matter of increasing the ratio of healers to wounded.
